Calif., Aug. 16 -- Maxtor Corporation (Nasdaq: MXTR) today announced
volume shipments of the world's first 80 GB hard drive, the DiamondMax
80 and its value line product, the DiamondMax VL 40.
These products are available through Maxtor's worldwide PC OEMs, distribution
and retail channel partners.

of the last to announce a 20 GB per disk product, Maxtor is one of the

DiamondMax 80 and DiamondMax VL 40
Available at 20 GB per platter, the DiamondMax 80 and DiamondMax
VL 40 provide a number of capacity points to meet the various storage
needs of customers. With the popularity of Internet and multimedia applications,
consumers will quickly see the need for hard drives in the 40 to 80
GB range.
Both the DiamondMax 80 and DiamondMax VL 40 have a 2MB buffer and are
Maxtor's second generation Ultra ATA/100 products for the highest ATA
compatibility and performance.
