The new technology innovatively integrates NiceVision, NICE's digital video and audio recording solution, with Dell's PowerVault storage platform. The storage capacity and speed of the PowerVault platform enables digital recordings to be archived to hard drives as another option to DAT (Digital Audio Tape) cassettes, the conventional digital archiving medium. The PowerVault platform's multiple hard drives will be capable of storing the archived video for a period of up to 30 days. "With NiceVision, we found a DVR system into which we could integrate our advanced hard drive storage technology. This development is designed to allow the industry to move ahead with mass on-line digital recording," said Mitch McKinzey, physical security manager for Dell Global Security. "The combined NICE/Dell hard drive archiving solution can offer users immediate retrieval of information from the hard drive with low mechanical functionality, at a cost-effective competitive price." Hagai Katz, president of NICE's Visual Interaction Management Division, said, "Our alliance with Dell has enabled us to take the industry a huge step beyond conventional taping. This innovative hard drive storage technology offers substantially greater recording flexibility, in terms of storage capacity, and retrieval functions. For organizations like Dell, with offices located around the world, this technology will allow them to monitor all of their facilities, in real time, from a single location." As a first step in implementing the new integrated solution, six of Dell's newly constructed facilities, which host a combination of manufacturing and support activities, are slated to incorporate the combined NiceVision system and PowerVault storage technology this year. "Our future plan is to retrofit additional existing sites, comprising 900 cameras in 47 buildings in the Austin/Round Rock area, and to start implementing the combined solution in those sites as well," McKinzey said. "Within the next two years, we're planning to extend the NiceVision system and PowerVault storage product to Dell sites in Europe, China, and North and South America so we can fully realize the extensive benefits from this important monitoring and security technology."
