DUSSELDORF,
Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 2000--Eurologic Systems, a leading
worldwide provider of network storage solutions for storage area networking
(SAN), OEM solutions, and vertical market applications, today announced
that they will be jointly demonstrating with Agfa, a world leading manufacturer
of leading-edge graphic communications technology, a pre-press application
in a SAN environment at the DRUPA exhibition in Dusseldorf, Germany,
May 18-31.
The
demonstration, which can be seen at Agfa's booth in PrintCity in Hall
6 (booth #C27), will show how pre-press imaging data can be transferred
across the storage area network at high rates of speed utilizing fibre
channel technology, resulting in increased scalability, improved efficiency
of output, and uninterrupted flow of data. The demonstration will feature
Eurologic's SAN-ready Fibre RAID network storage subsystems and Agfa's
Apogee pre-press workflow imaging software interoperating within the
SAN environment. Host isolation requirements will be provided through
JNI Corporation's Host Bus Adapters and EZ Fibre LUN-Level Zoning/Mapping
technology. Performance management will be provided through Vixel's
7000 Series Switch and SAN InSite 2000 Management Software. Data sharing
across the SAN's storage subsystems will be enabled by Tivoli's SANergy
software.
In today's round-the-clock printing world, uninterrupted throughput
is critical to the workflow of graphics-intensive applications. In today's
scenario, however, the large quantities of data processed to create
output, frequently grabs up capacity and creates bottlenecks that allow
fewer and fewer jobs to be processed. SANs, enabled by Fibre Channel
technology, provides a solution to this issue by enabling throughput
at extremely high rates of speed, ensuring the uninterrupted transfer
of data.
The SAN configuration being demonstrated, designed by Eurologic, combines
Fibre Channel components that have been qualified by Eurologic's interoperability
lab with a configuration that allows levels of SAN management. "As
a leader in providing Fibre Channel-based, SAN-ready storage technology
and an OEM storage provider to Agfa Prepress, Eurologic strives to ensure
that its Fibre RAID storage subsystem integrates smoothly into Agfa's
Prepress SAN architecture, " said Nick Thickins, Director
of Applications Marketing for Eurologic. "Eurologic achieves this
through ensuring interoperability not only with Agfa's industry-leading
Apogee pre-press workflow imaging software, but also with all critical
elements of the SAN, including host bus adapters, switches, and storage
management software. With this type of OEM storage relationship, the
SAN's design ensures interoperability, efficiency, and, most important,
productivity increases around the whole workflow, from the servers and
storage devices to the output medium," he added.
Stanley Hackney, Manager of RIPS and Servers for Agfa Worldwide
Development Support Engineering, said, "Eurologic's history of highly-reliable,
fault-tolerant storage solutions has made them our partner of choice
for storage solutions for three years. By leveraging Eurologic's application-specific
expertise and through close cooperative engineering efforts, our partnership
with Eurologic has enabled Agfa to provide our customers with the most
advanced SAN solutions tailored to the Pre-Press application workflow
requirements."
About Agfa's Apogee Workflow
Agfa Apogee is a PDF-based high-end production workflow system
for prepress and publishing environments. It is designed to incorporate
all prepress processing components: imposition, OPI replacement, trapping,
RIPing and print file management. Apogee is an NT-based system running
on Compaq and Intel(TM) processors. It has a Control Center that drives
and manages the entire Apogee workflow, interfacing simultaneously with
the PDF Pilot, the PDF RIPs and the Output Manager.
