Five days of five separate lives dramatically unfold against the backdrop of the Washington D.C. Metro in Brainbox Productions' Five Lines. Recently previewed at the prestigious New York Independent Film Festival, Five Lines was shot entirely on HDCAM, on location in the nation's capital.

5 Lines Characters"It's hard to picture the difference HD makes without actually seeing it," said Bill Davidson of Brainbox. "It's been described as looking out a window rather than looking at a screen. The effect is stunningly real."

When Brainbox set about creating a full-length HD movie, they knew they had to rely on technology that just a few years ago didn't exist on any set or in any studio.

FusionBOXX"We shot the film using the Sony HDW-700 HDCAM camera," Davidson said. "The HDCAM was then down-converted to standard definition BetaSP and was cut using in-sync's Speed Razor 4.8. We cut the trailer at the same time on another system, and once it was finished in standard definition, we moved the project over to BOXX Technologies' FusionBOXX HD running Speed Razor 2000X.

"We loaded up the project, with all titling and effects still intact, re-digitized the material and re-rendered," he said.

Five Lines Promo shot"Except for the fine tuning of the color correction for HD, the process was nearly automatic, resulting in a true uncompressed 1080i hi-definition trailer. I couldn't be happier with the flawless performance of the FusionBOXX HD system," Davidson said.

Currently, Brainbox is using FusionBOXX HD to re-digitize and re-render, or online, the entire feature from standard definition to HD.

"FusionBOXX HD makes the process so easy, with the results so rewarding, that standard def production may be a thing of the past here at Brainbox."
