Sydney,
Australia, August 14, 2000 -- Digital Processing Systems Inc. (TSE -
DPS) announced today the closing of a major sale of Post Production
systems to the largest audio-visual training department of the government
of China. Though exact numbers cannot be disclosed under the terms of
the deal, it is the biggest single sale of the acclaimed dpsVelocity
non-linear editing (NLE) system to date.
"The Chinese are very discriminating buyers," said Alan Lam,
Director of DPS China Ltd. "It was only after months of extensive
research, comparison testing and evaluation that they decided in favor
of dpsVelocity. We are honored."
DPS won the contract after extensive testing and competition against
products from Avid, Matrox, and Pinnacle Systems. A wide range of factors
contributed to the selection of dpsVelocity, including the excellent
price/performance ratio, easy upgrade path to SDI and DV input and output,
the dpsNetStream technology for streaming media, integrated real-time
3D video effects, and the availability of Top-CG, a powerful real-time
Chinese language titling package with motion titling for dpsVelocity
jointly developed by DPS China and Wuhan Golden Video Master.
Noel Oakes, Managing Director of DPS Asia Pacific, explained
that "This sale is for nationwide deployment in support of education
and training centers. As large as it is, it's only the beginning. Ultimately
the systems are planned to replace all existing linear and non-linear
editing systems in the agency."
Summing up the reaction of DPS, Mark E. Burton, President and
CEO, said, "We've always known that our systems have no equal in
price-performance, and we're pleased that the Chinese government provided
the opportunity to prove it in head-to-head competition with other industry
leaders. In any comparison involving both cost and capability, we will
win."
